Aberdeen bar secures three finalists places at Scottish awards
A leading Aberdeen cocktail bar and its general manager have been named as finalists for three top industry awards.
Orchid Aberdeen, which was established in 2009 and is based on the city’s Langstane Place, has been shortlisted for Cocktail Bar of the Year and Late Night Venue of the Year by the 21st annual Scottish Licensed Trade News (SLTN) Awards.
The bar’s general manager, Nick Gordon, 24, has also been recognised as one of three finalists for the esteemed Mixologist of the Year Award.
With a total of 22 awards up for grabs, the sought-after awards ceremony, due to take place at Glasgow’s Hilton Hotel on Thursday 3 November, will highlight the rich diversity and unparalleled expertise Scotland’s world famous hospitality sector is known for.
The shortlist was announced after the SLTN judges spent the summer visiting and assessing licensed businesses around Scotland.
Nick Gordon, said: “The team at Orchid have been on a roll this year, with a couple of our bartenders being recognised in prestigious awards such as Monkey Shoulder’s Ultimate Bartender Championships, the Buffalo Trace Mystery Migration Cocktail Competition and Glenfiddich’s Experimental Bartender Competition. The SLTN Awards mean a lot to us however, as we will be up against some of our own country’s finest talent and the awards ceremony is the perfect opportunity for our industry to get together and celebrate this.
“To be up for Mixologist of the Year is a huge personal achievement for me and it is amazing to gain some recognition for doing a job that I love. However, the whole team has worked hard to position Orchid as the well-established, forward-thinking cocktail bar it is today, and we are all very proud to be named a finalist in two separate categories. We all have our fingers crossed for the night.”
