All roads lead to Loch Ness as a celebrity DJ takes time out to visit Highland cruise company
An award-winning Highland cruise firm has played host to a world-famous DJ following the popularity of an ITV murder mystery drama.
Cruise Loch Ness, which is based in Fort Augustus has seen a rise in customers following the broadcast of TV crime thriller The Loch, and recently treated world famous techno DJ, Hans Peter Baxxter, to a white-knuckle ride across the famous Loch.
Mr Baxxter, better known as part of record breaking German dance group Scooter, and his girlfriend were staying at the upmarket Highland Club within the village’s former Benedictine Abbey this week when they approached the firm.
Cruise Loch Ness treated the couple to a high-speed trip on a rib this week, for around 90 minutes, as they took in some of the area’s best known landmarks, including Urquhart Castle and reached speeds of 30 knots.
Ronald Mackenzie, managing director of Cruise Loch Ness, said it was fantastic to have such a well-known music star on-board.
He added: “We were more than happy to take Hans and his girlfriend aboard. We thought they would enjoy something slightly faster than one of our leisurely cruises, so we took them out on our most popular rib trip.
“They had a fantastic time and were really grateful to us for showing them a bit of the real Loch Ness.
“The success so far following the TV series, The Loch, has been tremendous and I think as the series goes on it will really help to establish not just Fort Augustus, but the whole of the area around Loch Ness as a major tourist destination and will also be a great economic boost hopefully for the entire region.”
The Loch, was largely filmed in Fort Augustus and includes shots of Cruise Loch Ness vessels in the opening scenes. The Cruise Loch Ness popular coffee van, an original Citroen HY, is also set to feature later in the series after being converted into a gift shop.
Cruise Loch Ness, which was established in 1968, currently has two passenger vessels as well as three ribs and the company has carried more than 1.5 million passengers so far. It offers a range of boat rides, from leisurely to exhilarating. The staff at Cruise Loch Ness have exceptional knowledge of Loch Ness, its history and wildlife.
