Cake wars in Westhill
A North-East builders merchants brewed up goodwill across the region last week by taking part in the Macmillan Coffee Morning.
GPH Builders Merchants which has branches in Inverurie, Westhill and Stonehaven, hosted its third annual coffee morning in aid of Macmillan with members of staff getting involved in a “Great British Bake Off’ style competition.
The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer. People across the UK are encouraged to host their own coffee mornings and bake sales, with donations on the day made to Macmillan. Last year, the World’s Biggest Coffee morning raised its biggest ever total of £27.6million. This year, GPH has raised over £1200 towards their 2016 total.
With lemon drizzle pitted against Millionaire’s shortbread and carrot cake against banoffee cupcakes, the competition was fierce.
GPH non-executive director Graeme Hay and his wife Gillian, were on hand to judge the bakes at all three of the company’s branches. Staff from across the company were keen to take part, with customers enjoying the results.
GPH sales and marketing director, Nikki Mortimer, said: “Team GPH is always keen to support charitable ventures and it was our pleasure to support this year’s Macmillan coffee morning. The generosity of our team is matched only by that of our customers and friends who so generously purchased fancy pieces from us on the day.
“Most of us know someone who has been affected by cancer, and so we are delighted to have raised over £1200 to help Macmillan services and professionals to ensure no one faces cancer alone.”
