Loch Ness cruise company MD in the running for Business Man of the Year Award
An enterprising Fort Augustus businessman has been shortlisted for a top national award thanks to members of the general public.
Ronald Mackenzie, who owns family run business Cruise Loch Ness, which is located at Fort Augustus in the Highlands, said he was delighted to have both been nominated and to have made it to the shortlist.
Cruise Loch Ness has been in existence since 1968, when Ronald’s father, Norman first set sail. Cruise Loch Ness has been running boat trips from the southern bank of Loch Ness ever since and have had the fortune of carrying more than 1.5 million passengers in that time.
Mr Mackenzie has also recently invested in a £1.2 million pound catamaran, which is currently being commissioned and will be ready to set sail on Loch Ness this summer.
Last year he also opened a popular retro coffee van to accompany his fleet of ‘Nessie’ hunter boats – 40 years after his own mother opened the first tearoom in the village.
Mr Mackenzie has been shortlisted alongside six others for the title of Business Man of the Year at the inaugural Scottish SME Awards.
The awards are voted for by the general public who nominate their favourite businesses and entrepreneurs for the various categories.
Mr Mackenzie said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have been nominated for this award. It’s also particularly pleasing that it’s members of the public who have voted.
“We try our utmost to provide a fantastic customer experience during our Loch Ness cruises as customer satisfaction is a top priority for Cruise Loch Ness.
“I’d like to thank all the customers who have voted for me and the hardworking staff who work for Cruise Loch Ness as we couldn’t provide such a great customer experience without them.”
The awards ceremony will take place on the 13 March in the Crown Plaza Hotel in Glasgow where all the winners will be announced.
Cruise Loch Ness, currently has two passenger vessels as well as two ribs. It offers a range of boat rides, from leisurely to exhilarating. The staff at Cruise Loch Ness have exceptional knowledge of Loch Ness, its history and wildlife.
